APA Indiana Spring Professional Development Conference

Please join us at the Spring Development Workshop at Ball State University. There will be sessions on planning practices, implementation and success stories. There will be CM Credits for the sessions and the workshop will provide sessions on ethics and law.
- Come join us for lunch where we will be having “Lunch and Learn” with the planning students attending the conference.
- Partake in a debate between Ball State University students and those in the planning profession. The topic of debate “The Role of Planners in Economic Development.”
- Students and educators will present sessions on their studio work.
- Also during lunch celebrate and congratulate those receiving awards for their planning efforts.
AICP Exam Preparation Class – Ball State University’s Bruce Frankel will present an AICP Exam class for those candidates taking the exam this Spring.
Historic Preservation Law – Dr. Mary Ann Heidemann, AICP, Assoc. Professor will present federal, state and local preservation laws and regulations that govern properties and projects in Indiana, including the National Historic Preservation Act and federal project review under Sec. 106 of the Act. Standards for treatment of historic properties will be discussed, along with the role of State Historic Preservation Office. Indiana preservation law and the operation of local historic preservation commissions will be included as well.
Sustainability Standards and the Comprehensive Plan: Goshen’s Role as a Pilot Community with the American Planning Association (APA) – The City of Goshen is one of 10 pilot communities working with the American Planning Association’s Sustaining Places Initiative on sustainability standards and the comprehensive plan. APA selected 10 pilot communities nationally to help refine the plan standards developed by the Sustaining Place Task Force. These standards resulted in a PAS report #567 Sustaining Places: The Role of the Comprehensive Plan. Abby Wiles from the City of Goshen will present.
Even though this year was a short session with the Indiana Legislature a lot went on. An update of the Legislative session will be presented. Jamie Palmer will give an update of the Bills that has been tracked for the Chapter.
