The City of Bloomington has released a new road status information tool called inRoads.  This new tool is a web application that helps City staff manage information about road closings, lane reductions and sidewalk repairs.  The City has also made inRoads available to the public so that citizens are able to see current and future road closings.  It provides several types of views for users to see road closings either on a map, a list or via a calendar.  In addition to updates on City road closings, inRoads also will have information about road closings related to the construction of Interstate 69.

Rick Dietz, Bloomington Information Technology Services Department Director said, “One of our main goals for the inRoads application is to make these road and sidewalk closings and related information more available and accessible to the public.”

Some of the road event information was already available on the City’s website, but the new inRoads web application pulls it all together.  In addition to viewing road information through inRoads, the public may download inRoads system data in iCal, XML or JSON formats through the application.  E-mail alerts are available as well. To view inRoads, visit the City of Bloomington’s inRoads website.

The City will also release data in the Open511 standard format.  In addition to open data, inRoads is an open source application, meaning that the computer code to build it is available for anyone to review and reuse.  The code can be download from the City’s GitHub portal at github.com/City-of-Bloomington.
