Second Annual Southern Region Educational Event
By James Roach – Southern Region Representative
Senior Zoning Planner, City of Bloomington, IN
On Friday, August 2nd, the APA-IN Southern Region presented its second annual regional educational event. This year the event was centered on a workshop with a series of presenters titled “Planning for Healthy Communities.” The event was held at the Millhouse Restaurant in Jasper Indiana during the 35th annual Jasper Strassenfest. Over twenty five professional planners and engaged citizens discussed how to plan for the intersection of the built environment and public health, complete streets, and planning for pedestrian and bicycle travel. Planners from Bloomington and Jeffersonville discussed their efforts fro make their communities more friendly to non-motorized transportation. Bloomington’s “Breaking Away: Journey to Platinum” initiative to strive toward a platinum rating by the League of American Bicyclists and Jeffersonville’s recently completed “Bike and Ped Plan” were highlighted.
